In the realm of workforce solutions, few voices are as influential and inspiring as Lauren Ma, Chief Executive Officer of ReadyTech Workforce Solutions. In recognition of International Women’s Day, we seized the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Lauren about fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Her insights reveal a commitment not just to elevating women but to nurturing an environment where all employees thrive. Here’s what she shared.

Reflecting on Leadership Commitment to Diversity

Lauren emphasises the significance of leadership’s role in championing inclusivity, saying, “A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion from leadership is paramount. At ReadyTech, this is a core value of our business and one which attracted me to the role when joined the business.” She underscores how proactive leadership can set the tone for an organisational culture that embraces diversity at every level. “Building a diverse workforce starts at the top. Senior Leaders shape organisational culture and it’s important that we set a clear message that diversity and inclusion is valued in our business to foster innovation, talent acquisition, improved decision making and strengthen our brand in the market”. Lauren goes on to comment that “diversity at ReadyTech has become a true strategic advantaged of our business which has turned into tangible positive results”.

Diverse Representation in the Workforce

One area where ReadyTech shines, according to Lauren, is its representation of women in management and leadership positions. In Workforce Solutions we have 51% of our workforce represented by Women, with 70% of our most Senior Leadership positions occupied by women. I think those are incredible statistics, which we are very proud of ” This didn’t happen by accident. Lauren highlights the deliberate efforts to increase the representation of women across the business, particularly in leadership roles. “We continuously implement strategies to attract, retain, and promote women, especially those from underrepresented groups,” Lauren asserts. This approach demonstrates ReadyTech’s commitment to not just meeting quotas but truly valuing the diverse perspectives women bring to the table.

The Importance of Flexible Work Policies

Acknowledging the juggling act many women perform, balancing professional responsibilities with caregiving roles, Lauren champions flexible work arrangements. “ReadyTech excels in providing flexible work options for all our employees, such as remote work, flexible hours, and parental leave,” she notes. These policies, according to Lauren, are crucial for making the workplace more inclusive for women who often shoulder additional responsibilities outside of their professional lives.

Building an Inclusive Culture through Policies and Practices

Lauren firmly believes that creating an inclusive workplace extends beyond hiring practices to encompass all business policies. She advocates for the elimination of biases in recruitment, performance evaluations, and promotions. “We’re dedicated to ensuring our policies and practices promote inclusivity,” Lauren states. “A simple, yet effective initiative to encourage an inclusive environment has included internal training sessions on unconscious bias and diversity, aimed at fostering an environment of open dialogue and awareness regarding gender equality and diversity”. These sessions according to Lauren keep the topic ‘top of mind’ and act as a refresher on best practice.  “We have also had the privilege of talking to industry experts in the field to gain insight and perspective for our team, our clients and the market”. In the latest episode of the Ready Podcast, we embark on an insightful journey into the life and advocacy of Wayne Herbert, distinguished presenter, recognised extensively for his work in championing disability rights and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
