As we celebrated International Women’s Day 2024, with its poignant theme “Inspire Inclusion” on 8th March, we continue to amplify the voices of women from ReadyTech Workforce Solutions! We sought insights from leaders who are not just participating in the conversation but actively shaping the future of inclusive workplaces. Paige Maynard, Manager, Customer Solutions at ReadyTech Workforce Solutions, graciously shared her wisdom and experiences on creating more inclusive environments for women and beyond.

Paige carefully chooses to use the terms “men” and “women” in our conversation to provide clarity and precision; however, she keenly highlights that her intention is to be inclusive of the entire spectrum of gender identities. “The use of these terms are used as a practical reference, but the underlying commitment is to foster an inclusive environment for everyone, irrespective of gender identity” Paige emphasises.

Paige’s insights serve as a clarion call for introspection and action within corporate structures, urging a comprehensive approach to inclusivity that transcends traditional gender binaries and embraces everyone, regardless of their gender identity.

Understanding Inclusion with Paige Maynard

“Inclusion, to me, goes beyond mere representation. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging and connection for everyone,” Paige begins, laying the groundwork for a broader discussion on inclusivity. Her perspective challenges us to think beyond conventional gender norms and consider the full spectrum of identities in the workplace.

Challenges Faced by Women in the Workplace

Paige shares candidly about the personal challenges she’s faced, as a woman in leadership and mother of three, rooted in biases and misconceptions about women’s commitment and ability to work. “Parental leave is not a holiday, and working part-time doesn’t mean you’re less dedicated,” she asserts. She also highlights the damaging disparity in the language used to describe similar traits in men and women, where assertiveness in men is celebrated, but in women, it’s often misconstrued as aggression.

Strategies for Creating Inclusive Workplaces

Paige emphasises the importance of actively challenging biases and dismantling systemic barriers to create inclusive environments. “It’s about reinforcing that everyone has a place and potential for success, irrespective of gender,” Paige states.

“Representation matters, and showcasing diverse leadership helps break down preconceived notions” Paige stresses. Showcasing diverse leaders sends a strong message against gender limitations. Providing targeted mentorship and clear paths for advancement highlights everyone’s potential. Supporting and amplifying women-led initiatives is key to combating biases. Paige highlights that creating such allyship is a cornerstone to fostering allyship. This not only empowers women but also brings varied perspectives to the workplace, creating a thriving environment for all.

Furthermore, Paige calls for expanding efforts beyond internal policies to encompass charitable initiatives and volunteer work, demonstrating a commitment to broader societal values. She underscores the significant role male leaders play in this transformation. “For male leaders, creating opportunities for learning and self-reflection is crucial” Paige says. By encouraging male leaders to do so, workplaces can take a step towards a space where everyone is empowered to thrive.

Inspiring Inclusion Beyond the Workplace

Paige’s vision for inclusivity extends beyond the confines of the office. It’s a blueprint for societal change, where workplaces lead by example in championing equality and respect for all. “Creating inclusive workplaces is just the beginning. We need to inspire inclusion in every sphere of our lives,” she reflects.

To Sum Up

Paige Maynard’s insights invite us to view inclusivity as an ongoing journey rather than a destination. It’s a collective effort that requires consistent action, empathy, and a willingness to challenge the status quo.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 under the theme “Inspire Inclusion”, Paige’s message reiterates the importance of building workplaces—and by extension, societies—where everyone is empowered to thrive. The call to action is clear: it’s time for each of us to contribute to creating more inclusive environments, not just for women, but for everyone, everywhere.
